Convicted in 1977 of the murders of two FBI agents during the 1975 shoot-out at Oglala on the Pine Ridge Reservation, a conviction he has always contested. His case drew decades of support from Amnesty International, tribal nations and former federal officials.

President Biden commuted his sentence to home confinement on January 20, 2025. He walked out of federal prison on February 18, 2025 and returned to Turtle Mountain, North Dakota.

John Trudell

1946–2015 · Santee Dakota · poet, musician, AIM national chairman

National chairman of the American Indian Movement from 1973 to 1979, then one of the most recognisable spoken-word voices in Native America — AKA Grafitti Man, Bad Dog, and decades of readings and speeches.

He is featured on “Bring Him Out”, released two and a half years before his death in December 2015.
