About the song

The Story

The protest song for Leonard Peltier, and the centre of everything else on this site. It was released to the day on the thirty-eighth anniversary of the 1975 shoot-out at Oglala, on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

It carries the voices of two people who lived that history: John Trudell, the Santee Dakota poet and former national chairman of the American Indian Movement, and Steve Robideau, a long-time organiser in the campaign for Peltier’s freedom.

The release drew the support of the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee and of Tom Morello, who shared it. It is also the reason the artist stepped out of public view for the years that followed.
